Greetings from Shanghai

12th floor of UDG

Where I have been working as an Administrative Researcher in the last three years, from May 8, 2005 till to-date, UDG has since expanded to well over 300 staffs. When I joined back then, my staff number was right on 100. This implies the company has tripled in size over the last three years. In the first year, I managed to name all the faces I could recognize but today I could not tell if anyone is a part of UDG.

The following are shots I took during an early morning before the massive arrival. On this 12th floor and a new addition expanded to house the design teams, I am allocated in one of this area. The design display wall is set up by me as directed by my boss. Every now and then and to change scenery in between two to three weeks, I would go around looking out for design completed or in the process being done from any design team to display on the wall.

At this moment, it is also high time for me to note that I arrived in Shanghai to be gainfully employed since April 2004. It's amazing to find that I have been here in Shanghai, China for four years.

Yes, four years!

The Gift

Today, I collected the package shown above from the very fouled service of Post China of Rushan Road Branch.

The enclosure, however, is definitely something more than lovely and beautiful to receive. And it is the 1st Art & Design Graduation Yearbook 2004. Cool!

Well, it was over four years ago that I was part time teaching at the New Era College in Kajang. This batch of interior design student had since graduated from the said college; some had also completed their further studies overseas wherever they were. I want to wish them all best of everything they do in their future undertaking. G'luck! Thank y'all for being my students.

Kai Sheng has visited Shanghai and many other areas around with her bus load full of relatives. She popped into Shanghai for the first time and we met very briefly on April 28th, 2008. We were glad to see each other after many years and since the last occasion when in KL before she left for her Interior Design degree in Australia. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for the home made fried chillies...mmhmmm...delicious!

The three-day holiday of May Day 2008

Not much to do on the day but armed to shoot and test with the newly bought camera with results shown below (all photos below shot by LY except the 6th by me):

Pics above n below r taken at the same location at Pudong Ave. n Century Boulevard. Usually, bldgs r lit up over the festive days.

Below are three pics showing over 180-degree view of the Pudong Financial District with rising towers all over:

Pics above and below show two towers dominating each other when viewed from different perspectives. Currently the tallest in China, and 2nd tallest after Taiwan's Taipei 101 considered, the slender and minimalist Shanghai World Financial Tower shown above was shrouded in the early morning clouds with piercing lights brightened up the building edge at the building top. Whereas, Jinmao Tower below seems to dominate with ascending and diminishing repetitive building facade.

A Day Trip to Chongming Island

Located off the coast of Shanghai and at the rivermouth of the Long River, Chongming Island is the 3rd largest island of China. Over this May Day three-day holiday weekend, Penny came over from Suzhou to meet her high school classmates; and ten of us altogether went to Chongming Island for green exposure.
