Jingdezhen, April 4th – 5th, 2008
Oil Vegetable Flowers, i.e. 油菜花; a.k.a. Brassica campestris or rape blossoms.
Jingdezhen remains a very important city in the history of ceramic production, at first serving imperial consumption and now catering for China and the world. Yejun and I arrived at Jingdezhen in the evening to meet his high school classmate; they had not seen each other for the last ten over years and since they all graduated from high school and universities. We all chatted heartily during the sumptuous dinner, all local cuisine I had never had before.
It rained over night and quite heavily. We left Jingdezhen during early dawn hour. Skipping to check out the city and instead we headed for Poyang, home of Yejun's childhood and adolescent years.

Poyang, April 5th – 7th 2008
Oil Vegetable Flowers, i.e. 油菜花; a.k.a. Brassica campestris or rape blossoms.
Right on the eastern side of Poyang Lake and population of around 140 millions, Poyang city was once an important historical and geographical hub in history but now gone into its seemingly impoverished state. However, industrial developments pertaining to food processing and garment are now propping up along the main road from the high way entrance or exit leading all the way to the city center; this is very apparent in this outlying where its current appearance is still very rural in character. Paddy fields are still everywhere a large part of the city already speaks for itself. In fact, the overall Jiangxi Province as an inland province of China is today considered an economic backwater but struggling to strive forward.
For these few days, Yejun was home with most family members. Being third in the row, Yejun has three brothers; the eldest, in electronic repair work, and the youngest brothers, in water pipe repair work, remain at home while the second brother, being a painter and in painting business, lives not too far away; whereas, a sister is married to Shenzhen and in hospitality business. The next generations are in their mid-teens except a little girl who is just about to enter the first grade next year. Yejun also has a daughter who did not come along during this long distance driving trip.
The parents are in their sixties and very capable of doing everyday housework. In fact, by keeping themselves busy and useful, both parent cooked all the meals for the family. The parent's cooking is super delicious. Indeed, I was not at all discreet but helped myself graciously by digging into the best of great home made cooking to satisfy my unwavering appetite.
I had a wonderful time with the family. It was indeed great to meet them all – a family with affection intrinsically driven, soft speaking. They were showering me with lots of puzzling looks follow by inquisitive inquiry about my origin and language use, of course, last but not least, their very generous hospitality.

After parting goodbye to the parents, Yejun and I left Poyang at 6 a.m. and heading for Shanghai.
On the way, we side-tracked into the Yingtan Highway Service Stop for breakfast. When entering the stop, the right front tyre was flatly punctured together with the right back barely scratched. These two concurrent accidents were suspected to be some premeditated scam, with screws strategically planted to maximize damage. There were previous Law Reports on CCTV about similar accidents with police forces moving in to crack the case. Since rendered futile, however, and we were delayed over an hour to get service workers to repair and change for safety sake. Later, we stopped over for small breaks at a few service stations.
We finally arrived at Xingzhuang, home of Yejun in an outlying suburb of Shanghai, at about 5:30 p.m. Soon after I took a taxi and headed for home, arriving at around a quarter past 6. The taxi ride to home in Pudong cost me RMB73.00.

Ally Wong and Chloe Gan visiting from Singapore
For four consecutive days and over weekend, Ally Wong and Chloe Gan arrived from Singapore.
Ally was very generous for she came preparing a time piece for me as a gift; I will always be grateful for her kindness. This is really a timely gift for I had stop using one since the last one had finally came to stop. Whereas, the last one was also selected by those students from MIA when I took this bunch of students to Malacca for Historical Visit and they found the good one for me and I had it since till it stopped recently. I am grateful for these students who had brought great meaning of time to my life – for we always had a great time together.
In this rather brief but wonderful occasion, Ally came with Chloe. The selected pictures below showed that we were out all over town although it was rainy most often during this deep winter. It was really great to see them both and we had a great time combing the streets, and hopping into the Qibao or Seven Precious Old Town located in the western suburbs of Shanghai.
I look forward to seeing them visiting again sooner.
