Wuyuan, April 2nd – 4th, 2008
Oil Vegetable Flowers, i.e. 油菜花; a.k.a. Brassica campestris or rape blossoms.
With stunning natural beauties of oil vegetable flowers everywhere during this early spring, Wuyuan as a scenic region is enough to make an indelible name for itself and to attract tourists from all over. Wuyuan is definitely a utopia, a pastoral setting way over qualified for oil painting subjects. In their well selected perspectives, many young painters and photographers of all ages could be seen executing and displaying their skills to record lasting impression.
The hot yellow is very much blinding one's mind. If immerse in it for too long, one would also likely suffer from eventual esthetic fatigue. The blinding yellow filled my mind all the time. Fields after fields, miles after miles of oil vegetable flowers growing in this heavenly environment easily silent all into snapping photos away or posing inside and outside the flowering fields. Many had to pop over the roadside curbs just to capture a spectacular view when spotted.
Overwhelmed with humbled admiration, Yejun and I could also ooh and aah all the way. Yejun sighed that the villagers lived in paradise while we all had to live in the future city of ruin. We cannot have it all and there is no trade off in this case. This explains why there are so many attracted to these scenic areas years after years. Except silenced into tranquility, a picture is still not necessarily worth more or less than a thousand words.
