1893 (19th Reigning Year of Guangxu during Qing Dynasty)
The Public Works Department of Shanghai built a public slaughterhouse of Hongkou area on the current premise 10 Shajing Road.

August 1919
The Public Works Department of British Concession expanded to build a slaughterhouse for cattle near Lihong Bridge at Jiulong Road, Hongkou area.

1931
The Public Works Department of Shanghai began to build a “Cattle Slaughterhouse of the Department of Works, Shanghai.”

November, 1933
The premise of 10 Shajing Road was completed.

January 1934
The premise of 10 Shajing Road was put into use.

1935
The premise of 29 Shajing Road was completed and put into use.

1937
During Japanese invasion, Japanese soldiers occupied the slaughterhouse by force and taking it as the first Municipal slaughterhouse.

1941
After Pacific War erupted, the puppet Japanese Administration took control of the slaughterhouse.

August 15, 1945
Victorious over the War, the Social Department took over the slaughterhouse.

1946
The slaughterhouse developed into its largest scale in the Far East at this time and supplied two-third of fresh meat for the whole city.

May 28, 1949
Of the People's Liberation Army, its Army Administrative Committee of Shanghai expended its member to reside over the first municipal slaughterhouse.

June 08, 1949
Of the People's Liberation Army, the Sanitation Department under the Finance and Economics Committee of the Army Administration expended army representative Wang Ting and Zhang Xiang, the commissioner in charge, to officially in charge of the slaughterhouse.

June 1951
Generally called the “Slaughterhouse Market of Shanghai Municipality” (north and south premises), the “two slaughterhouse premises” were integrated for administrative purposes and began accepting commission works from the Logistics of Pork Industry, a local produce company of Eastern China Region.

May 1953
While operating its business, the State owned slaughterhouse (the slaughterhouse of Shajing Road) began making use of visceral organs such as gall bladders and exporting pituitary glands to Czechoslovakia.

September 1958
The slaughterhouse became a State owned frozen meat processing plant of Shanghai.

1969
Shanghai Dongfeng Meat Processing Plant, Shanghai Changsheng Food Factory, Shanghai Food Research Center and Shanghai Integrated Mechanical Food Processing Plant all stationed out at the slaughterhouse at Shajing Road.

1970
It was converted into the Great Wall Shenghua Pharmaceutical Plant.

2002
Operation was halted completely.

After 2002
Remained unoccupied and abandoned for a long period of time.

October 31, 2005
Officially gazetted as Heritage Architecture by the Shanghai Municipality.

December 24, 2005
Shanghai Creative Center organized a comprehensive investigative research of the premises.

June 2006
The Shanghai Creative Center, the Shanghai Corporation of Shanghai Automobile Capitals Ltd. Co. and John Hawkins Corporation (John Hawkins being regarded as the father of UK Creative Industry) all organized as the Shanghai Creative Industry Investment Ltd. Co. and kicked off preliminary renovation works of the slaughterhouse.

August 01, 2006
The Shanghai Creative Industry Investment Ltd. Co. and the original client of slaughterhouse signed partnership agreement, officially kicking off renovation works of Old Factory Square (the slaughterhouse).

August 04, 2006
Request for Information for planning design of Old Factory Square.

August 2006
The Shanghai Creative Industry Investment Ltd. Co. named the slaughterhouse as Old Factory Square 1933.

September 16, 2006
Administrative Committee of Shanghai Cultural Relics Protection and other departments deliberated dialectic process over the cultural protection of Old Factory Square.

October 22, 2006
Evaluation of Planning Design Proposals of Old Factory Square and Zhongyuan International Engineering Research Centre qualified as the finalist for the proposed renovations works.

January 2007
The Shanghai Creative Industry Administration Ltd. Co. was established to fully administer the project of Old Factory Square.

May 15, 2007
The Shanghai Creative Industry Investment Ltd. Co. and Shanghai Zhonghang Administrative Corporation Ltd. Co. signed strategic agreement to administer operation of the Old Factory Square.

October 05, 2007
After renovation works, Ferrari held charity dinner in celebration of F1 Circuit in the Old Factory Square.

October 26, 2007
An Evening of Rado Switzerland, the 50th Anniversary cum press conference of a limited-edition chronograph watch to mark its official timekeeper, was held in Old Factory Square.

November 01, 2007
The renovation works of Old Factory Square was completed.

November 11 – 21, 2007
3rd Shanghai International Creative Industry Week was held in Old Factory Square.
