Oct. 1st – 4th, 2008
During the Sept. 29th through Oct. 8th trip back to Kuala Lumpur to settle some chores, coincided with the Hari Raya holiday on Oct. 1st., my friend and I took a side trip flying by AirAsia for only 50 minutes from LCCTerminal nearby KLIA International Airport to Medan, Indonesia. We headed directly to Lake Toba soon after we arrived at the Polonia Airport, located right by the Medan urban frienge. We flew the same on return flight.
The departure at the LCCTerminal appeared more like a war zone for tourists arriiving or departing actually ran into each other at the gates or when walking to or from the parked airplanes. For there was no trailblazers directing the way other than the ground crew showing the way, one could easily be misled or confused and possibly went to the moon instead. Nothing surprising anymore, that's what the Malaysian always derided in kelam kabut or chaotic moments.
Since the local Indons were also on holiday, and all seemingly heading in more or less the same direction, the entire way from Polonia Airport to Lake Toba took us longer and nearly 6 hours by the hired airport taxi. It was jam all the way. Our very skilfull driver was Ismail Chaniago. By the time we arrived at Parapat, the first stop by the Lake Toba, it was nearly dusk.
